I’m glad I’m not famous: Solonge Vs. Jay-z

Poor Solonge.

She beat up Jay-Z and couldn’t have the privacy of keeping it in the family. Having brothers I know this is actually quite normal. Don’t act like it isn’t. Especially coming from a little sister. It’s just that the parties involved are mega-famous and have hired security. Since the release of the video footage taken in an elevator at The Standard hotel on the night of the Met Gala here in New York City I can’t stop watching Solonge, Beyonce’s baby sister, throw hands, feet, designer handbag and heels at her brother-in-law Jay-Z as Beyonce just watched. Princeless! You never know what happens behind closed doors of the people you think have few problems. Very dysfunctional exchange between the three of them which is even more interesting being we’ve hardly seen this closeknit family have any problems in public. I’m about to watch it again.

Train wreck in the making…

My Helmut Lang SS 2013 dress

I almost passed over this dress when I saw it on the sale rack at Barneys New York Brooklyn location last year but I am so glad I tried it on. I had to buy it! It’s beautiful by itself on a warm breezy day but even cooler when I wear it layered under my David Bowie graphic t-shirt and on-top of my J-brand black neoprene pants in the freezing NYC winter. Love this piece!

Below I styled it sporty, for a test shoot with Ford models, by pairing silver bangles I bought on the street in soho and a fresh pair of retro Charles Barkley Nike CB94 high top basketball shoes, a last minute genius idea my uber stylish boyfriend Milton Campbell gave me.

HommeDepot: KIEHL’S Clearly Corrective White Clarity-Activating Toner vs. KIEHL’s Face Fuel Energizing Tonic For Men

KIEHL’S Clearly Corrective White Clarity-Activating Toner: I have skin that is very sensitive to hyperpigmentation, which sucks. What doesn’t suck is this toner. It does what it says it will, ” help(s) reverse noticeable skin discoloration and help(s) restore hydration levels for an overall improvement in skin clarity.” I was hesitant to try this because of the “Clearly Corrective White” part for I did not know what it meant by white. Perhaps it was the clear color of the liquid or the white packaging but I did not notice any change in the overall color of my skin, only the disappearance of scars. The toner smelled soft and divine, not too much fragrance which is a turn off with Activated C, White Birch, and Peony Extracts. At $42.00 per 8oz bottle it is worth the try.

KIEHL’s Face Fuel Energizing Tonic for Men: Once again, yes I do use men’s grooming products from time to time, mainly to do product reviews for my male readers and because of my boyfriend. I enjoy the “Facial Fuel” line in the mornings because they really wake me up and get me ready to start my day. Formulated with caffeine, vitamins C and E, and combined with bamboo extract the product line is invigorating as promised. But compared to the KiEHL “Dermatologist Solutions” line, I do not like the scent. It’s a bit jarring to the senses — be it morning, noon, or night! I would prefer a lighter fragrance or none at all. Other than that it does sooth the skin in preperation for a moisturizer and at $18.00 it gives a great pick me up.

HommeDepot: (MALIN + GOETZ) grapefruit face cleanser vs Baxter of California Daily Face Wash

(MALIN + GOETZ) grapefruit face cleanser: This 0.5% grapefruit extract cleanser with amino acid hydration boasts a #1 selling cleanser promise on its website. I first became familiar with the brand in 2010 when I moved back to New York and basically lived out of the Soho Grand and The Standard hotels. The shampoos and conditioners smelled so nice and fresh and I love the clean packaging design. But this particular facial wash was such a let down. My face never felt clean and I started getting breakouts as if it did not fully wash away my makeup and dirt as promised. I decided to leave it in our shower as a wake up face wash to cleanse the skin after sleeping. This was a better alternative for the $30.00 bottle of 236ml cleanser from Barneys New York for I know my skin just gets a bit oily overnight. The one claim I agree with is that the daily cleanser did wash away free of residue and without irritation but overall I do not feel this is a worthy buy.

Baxter of California Daily Face Wash: I loved this! The scent is natural, the consistency of the liquid was thick, which prevented a mess while also making the $17.00 300ml bottle bought from Barneys New York long-lasting, but most importantly it improved the texture of my skin! It is comparable to the $10-16 bottle of drugstore dermatologist favorite Cetaphil face wash. Because I share a place with my longtime boyfriend I have tested a lot of “male only” beauty products. And sometimes I enjoy them even more! This face wash did a wonderful job of removing all of my heavy makeup without over drying my skin. As a result my hyper-pigmentation from earlier blemishes began to disappear as new acne stayed away. The pump-top made it easier to use without having to move the bottle out our vanity than most other cleansers. Overall this is the best facial wash I have tried in a while!
